Rule your world.

So, who doesn't has their own sweet memories of the wooden ruler during their time spent in their school ? As far as invention goes, a ruler is just a simple thing for measuring purpose. but now Shay Shafranek from Israel is modifying an old school wooden ruler to an electronic ruler with the advantages of a digital interface.

Line of resistors

The ruler doesn't come with markings for measurement but will instead contains an LED readout which glows through the top later of a multiply construction, rendering it invisible when the power off. It works by pressing the button, the digits illuminate and the ruler is set to ready. Passing a pencil along the edge of the ruler will display the digits according the the length of the line as the measuring is done by the resistors which detect the pencil's lead. Reset the value for new measurement by pressing the same button again.

When you wanted to measure something longer and you just run out of ruler, what should you do? With electronic ruler there's nothing to be worried. You can simply move the ruler ahead and the measurements will be added on so that you don't have to do any careful lining or hard sums in your head. At the same time, you can also recalibrate to any unit of your choice by holding the power switch and touching two points which then it will shows the distance for the new unit.

The electronic ruler is an ingenious invention from Shefranek as it makes our life easier.

Oh well, how we wish that this concept would actually be seen in Malaysia?
